Alternatives to Methyl Bromide for Nematode Control: a South Florida Synopsis
نویسنده
چکیده
The breadth and focus of the methyl bromide alternatives research program in Florida is not limited exclusively to evaluation of chemical combination treatment regimes. The Florida program also encompasses an evaluation of a diversity of nonchemical tactics. Some of the nonchemical alternatives evaluated include: 1) Cover crops 7) Pest Resistant Crop Varieties 2) Organic Amendments 8) Solarization 3) Biological Control Agents 9) Natural Product Pesticides 4) Crop Rotation (Strip Tillage) 10) Supplemental Fertilization 5) Super Heated Water and Steam 11) Fallowing 6) Paper and Plastic Mulch Technologies and Emissions Reduction The objective of this paper is to highlight the results of some of the field trials performed in south Florida during 1997-98.

Fumigant Alternatives to Methyl Bromide for Managing Nematodes and Weeds in Snapdragon
Effect of several soil fumigants on plant-parasitic nematodes, weeds, and snapdragon ( Antirrhinum majus L.) production were evaluated in a commercial site in southeast Florida in 2002-03. Treatments consisted of methyl bromide (98%) + chloropicrin (2%), metam sodium, metam sodium + chloropicrin, and a nontreated control. All fumigant treatments reduced (P < 0.05) weed populations compared to t...

Methyl bromide is an effective pre-plant soil fumigant used to control nematodes in many high-input, high-value crops in the United States, including vegetables, nursery plants, ornamentals, tree fruits, strawberries, and grapes. Because methyl bromide has provided a reliable return on investment for nematode control, many of these commodities have standardized their production practices based ...
متن کاملEffects of midas® on nematodes in commercial floriculture production in Florida.
Cut flower producers currently have limited options for nematode control. Four field trials were conducted in 2006 and 2007 to evaluate Midas® (iodomethane:chloropicrin 50:50) for control of root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne arenaria) on Celosia argentea var. cristata in a commercial floriculture production field in southeastern Florida. Midas (224 kg/ha) was compared to methyl bromide:chloropic...

The recent de-registration of several chemical nematicides and the impending loss of methyl bromide from the pest-control market necessitate the development of new methods for controlling nematode-induced crop damage. One approach for developing novel target-specific controls is by exploiting fundamental differences between the biological processes of nematodes and their host plants. Researcher...

Several formulations of 1,3-dichloropropene and chloropicrin were compared with a methyl bromide/chloropicrin formulation for nematode control on tomatoes (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) grown on a sandy soil in Immokalee, Collier Florida Agricultural Experiment Station Journal Series No. N-01294. This work was supported by funding from the United States Department of Agri culture Specific Coop...
